Snuggle Beds: Why Dogs Deserve a Bed of Their Own?
Published by Connor Bainton,
Just like us, dogs also need a bed of their own. While there are lots of beds available on the market, it seems that these days the snuggle types are the most popular ones. These types of beds are ideal for those dogs that like to nest, like to feel protected but also for those that like to sleep in a foetal position. And since dogs are considered as a family member, nowadays, dog owners can choose from a plethora of different snuggle bed styles. High-walled nesting beds, donut style, cocoons, beds made of faux fur and bolster beds are just some of the many types of dog beds available on the market.
And while some of you might think that dogs don't need a bed as they can curl up and sleep literally anywhere, the reality is different. The truth is that dogs need beds just like we do and reasons for this are many.

A Place of Their Own
Dogs know very well that the house belongs to their owner, and the bed belongs to them. In these situations, they feel like a second-class citizen and when having a bed of their own, this gives them some kind of security and protection. They feel safe in their own bed knowing that they have a place of their own. A place where they can retreat whenever they want without being disturbed. On the other hand, giving them a bed will shorten the dog owner's worries and stressful situations whenever they see the dog lying in the bedroom bed or sofa. Just like us, dogs also want a comfortable place to sleep, so usually, they'll end up lying on a bed or carpet where scratching is inevitable. Thus, a snuggle bed is the ideal solution that will give the best of both worlds: to the owner - a peace of mind and to the dog - safety. When it comes to choosing the right type, dog owners should take into account the dog's size and the bed's comfiness.
Improved Health
Although it might seem as comfortable, dogs are not comfortable while sleeping on the floor. But that's not all. Except for this, sleeping on a floor or any other hard surface can be damaging to its health. Dog beds of any kind can be beneficial for the dog's health, but if a dog has any kind of pain or discomfort while sleeping, an orthopedic dog bed will be needed. According to veterinarians, older dogs should definitely sleep on an orthopedic bed as they are more prone to developing arthritis, hip dysplasia and some other structural ailments.

Better Hygiene
Let's face it, no matter how frequent you vacuum and wipe the floors, they are not the cleanest place on earth to sleep. Providing a dog with his own bed is not only good for itself but it's also good for the owner to keep the hygiene at the highest possible level. Speaking from another point of view, usually, beds have an inner removable liner which means that keeping it clean will be a piece of cake. All of them are designed to be washed in the machine, which means that the dog can always enjoy in its dry, soft and clean bed.
More Room to Stretch
Speaking from another point of view, dog owners would not have to worry about pressing the dog's paws while sleeping in the same bed. That way, their sleep will be constantly interrupted which can affect their productivity and energy level. This can mainly happen because of the lack of sleep they are getting. By giving them their own sleeping space, both dog owners and dogs can feel more rested because there will be fewer night disturbances.

Cuddling with the Dog is Still an Option
In the end, a new bed doesn't mean that the dog – owner cuddles will be over. By introducing a dog to his new bed means that they'll know that they have a new bed, a space where they can sleep whenever they want. But this doesn't mean that the daily cuddles will be over. Dogs are like kids, they see their owners as parents, as someone close. So their love and strong bond cannot be broken with anything.
As already mentioned, before making any decision, it's important for the homeowner to take into account the most important factors when it comes to choosing a pet bed of this kind. Out of all, the good fit, easy bed washability, safety and absorbent pads are the most important ones to have in mind. Another important thing to have in mind is that these beds cannot be used as travel beds because they don't have the needed protection and safety features. Travel beds are completely different and are usually used only for the purpose. The most common type of travel beds are plastic crates with inner padding.
